Version 0.4.0: Companions
0.4.0 is the second build for closed testers. Thanks for playing! This page is where to look after each update to see what changed.
The big one is companions. Buy a dog (or other companion) at the new kennel in the Harbour, and it runs beside the bike and fetches the slices that fall off the stack. It can only save so many each job. When it's done, it hops into the basket on the back and slumps. There's no mechanical difference between the companions.
You'll want one. The Harbour is harder now: gold with three boxes or more now assumes a companion is catching slices for you.
New
- Companions: a dog, cat, parrot, penguin, fox and panda, sold at the Harbour's kennel. The dog is $150. One rides with you at a time and fetches dropped slices.
- Choosing one: the companions you own wait outside the pizzeria. Tap one to take it along. Not during a delivery: it will shake its head.
- Companion upgrades are also at the kennel. Whoever is riding wears all of them:
- Pouch and 2nd pouch: more rescues each job.
- Harness: catches slices from covered boxes, and in mid-air.
- Collar: a used rescue comes back after a stretch without losing a slice.
- Gold cape: once a job, saves the slice that would have ruined a box. It flaps. (Also, capes and fabric are hard to do well. Lesson learned. I'll keep iterating on it.)
- The result screen marks each slice your companion saved and what that was worth. Missed a gold with no companion along? A paw points you to the kennel.
Changed
- The Harbour is windier. Gusts at the canal mouth and on the long pier are stronger and last longer, and the wind now reaches the bottom of East Lane.
- The drawbridge keeps its own time on a 20-second cycle, instead of resetting when a job starts. The bridge jobs' medal times are longer to make up for it.
- Prices: the bus to the Harbour now costs $2,000 to open (it was $600), and the suspension is $2,500 (it was $6,000).
Fixed
- Pulling down the notification shade, opening a system dialog or using split screen now pauses a delivery, as leaving the game does.
Smoother
- The game caps its frame rate: 60 while you ride, 30 in menus, and 10 when you're not looking at it. That should be easier on the battery and keep the phone cooler.
- Things that weren't moving were being redrawn every frame anyway: the menus, the phone's pages and map, job cards, parked vehicles. That ate up battery. Fixed now.
- The music pauses when the game is in the background or the volume is at 0.
